Injury Prevention for Computer Use
Repetitive motion injuries are a serious concern at work. Repetitive motion, including using a computer,
can lead to conditions such as carpal tunnel syndrome. If you use a computer at work, try these tips to help
prevent carpal tunnel syndrome.
1.        Relax as much as possible at the keyboard. Type with a slight touch.
2.        Stretch your fingers, hands, arms and torso for a minute or two every 30 minutes
3.        Tilt your keyboard tray away from you so you don’t have to bend your wrists to type.

I attended Nursing School at D’Youville College in Buffalo, NY and came to
Williamson immediately after graduation in 1973. I started work at Williamson
Appalachian Regional Hospital where I worked until 1979. I then became a Nursing
Instructor at Southern West Virginia Community College and continued to work part
time at ARH. During that time I received a Masters in Vocational Technical
Education from Marshall. In 1983 I began my career in Public Health. I first was a
Nursing Consultant for the Division of Local Health in the Bureau for Public Health.
In 1990 I transferred to the Boone County Health Department as Administrator. I
have a Masters in Nursing from West Virginia University and I am a Family Nurse
Practitioner. Public Health is my love and I can’t think of any better place to work. In
2008 I was privileged to attend the Parish Nursing training offered by the Diocese
of Wheeling-Charleston.
